salvation

To Live is Christ. What if that is the whole deal in a nutshell? The apostle Paul makes that statement in his letter to the Philippians. He says to live is Christ and to die is gain. So, what if that was true? What if the life you are most wanting, most longing for, is found in Christ?

If you have questions about Christ and what it means to find life in Him, then here is a real simple explanation. Jesus invited us to follow Him. He said He came to give us life. The inference is that our current way of life will not lead us there. Jesus came and died and rose again so that we might receive His death as our own and find what we have been looking for all along.

As you continue to read about what Christ has done for you, please know that Port City Community Church is committed to helping you in your faith journey. It is our great privilege to share hope and life in Christ with others and to provide places where people can process the gospel message. We have a place for you. Stop by What's Next on Sundays to share with us where you are in your journey and we'll help you connect with others that will walk alongside you. Accepting Christ

Admit your need for Christ. The Bible teaches that we were created by God and for God (Colossians 1:16). Namely to show His character and splendor to the world. Yet, we have failed to do this. The Bible calls this sin.

"The heavens are shocked at such a thing and shrink back in horror and dismay," says the LORD. "For my people have done two evil things: They have forsaken me -- the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!" Jeremiah 2:12-13

"For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard. Romans 3:23

You may be able to list some of the sins you feel you have committed. There may be things that God defines as sin that you don't really see as a big deal. Sin is more than a list of bad things we have done. It is refusing to trust and embrace the life that God has created for you. This is the bad news. The good news is that God refuses to give up on His intended purpose for you and all of His creation.

Accept Christ's sacrifice for you. This is simply an act of FAITH. Christ died on the cross and rose from the grave in order to make us right before God once again. We must simply receive this great gift by faith.

"We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done." Romans 3:22

"For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ."     2 Corinthians 5:21

Prayer. Dear Jesus, thank you for making me and loving me, even when I've gone my own way. I realize I need you in my life, and I'm sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Please help me to understand it more. As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on. Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow and walk with You each day.

"Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13

Arrange your life to walk with Him daily. Placing your faith in Christ is the launching point for life! The Bible teaches us that Christ is life, and walking with God is simply the pursuit of that truth. Psalm 119:5 says, "Oh that my ways may be established in order to keep your commands." He's given us commands to help us to experience a life filled with hope and joy and purpose.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness." John 10:10

We echo Paul's prayer (Colossians 1:9-12) for you:

We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what He wants to do in your lives, and we ask Him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better.

We also pray that you will be strengthened with His glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God's holy people, who live in the light.

"He has saved us and called us to a holy life -- not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. 2 Timothy 1:9
